On what day and where is the rubbish collected?

Rubbish is collected from the entrance onto Court Road on a Tuesday morning from 7am.  Each camp must remove all rubbish from the site on the Saturday they leave - so this would involve a trip to the tip.  The Civic amenities is a short drive across Freshwater and is shown on the map.  Opening times can be found at Island Waste Services.

How is the marquee lit and are there power points for recharging mobile phones?

There is mains electric lighting in the Marquee and power points are provided.  There are also electrical points are in the cookhouse.

Is there a facility on the campsite for a BBQ?

There is not a BBQ onsite.  Some of the camps use the large community BBQs at Fort Victoria.  It is a fantastic site as it is on the beach and west facing so you catch some amazing sunsets on the green.  There is ample parking.  One of our camps regularly uses it and take disposable BBQs.

Please also see the link from the Isle of Wight council website.  As BBQ's can be popular in summer they offer information and recommend booking one of the three large community BBQs in advance.

Does the campsite have showers?

We do not have showers onsite.  The Camps during the season use the showers at the leisure centre which is a short walk/drive into the village (please see map above).  Please speak to Claire Griffin who is the general manager.   A price is negotiated by the camps using the site on a year by year basis.  The amount charged in previous years was £1 (as water is metered on the Isle of Wight).  West Wight Sports Centre, PO40 9XH  Tel: 01983 752168

Could you give me a postcode so we can locate the campsite using a sat nav?

The field doesn't have a postcode, however the house opposite just before the site entrance is PO40 9NU.

Is there access to bring a coach onto the site?

Court Road is a single track country lane.  If you use the postcode PO40 9NU you can view it using Streetview on google.  There is a small lay-by about 75 yards up the road, but there isn't a footpath.  Most BB companies come by mini buses which can easily get on the field.

Court Road site entrance facing North (towards the village), the gate can just be seen over the hedge.

Court Road entrance, South Facing.  The gate is on the right.

As the road bends there is a small lay-by, as shown in the next picture.  As you can see there is no foot path between the site entrance and the lay-by.

The site entrance is opposite the house shown in the top right hand corner of the picture.

Site entrance, Court Road

Do the local beaches have lifeguards?

No.  The only ones with Lifeguards on the island are at Sandown & Shanklin.  The beaches at Totland and Colwell are blue flag beaches.

Is there a launderette in Freshwater?

The launderette in the village closed a few years ago.  Regrettably the nearest one is Barton Washeteria (10, Beech Rd, Newport , PO30 2AH) which is 9 miles away.  Tel: 01983 528318
